Qatar Participates in Joint Thematic Event on Midterm Review of DPoA Implementation for LDCs
Doha, June 24 (QNA) - The State of Qatar took part in the Joint General Assembly-ECOSOC Special Thematic Event on the Midterm Review of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) on Wednesday.
HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad represented the State of Qatar at the assembly that was convened virtually.
Addressing the event, Her Excellency emphasized that Qatar's hosting of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) had been a great landmark that embodies international solidarity in backing the efforts of those nations in terms of capacity-building and addressing challenges.
She highlighted that the DPoA for the decade 2022-2031 represents an ambitious roadmap to meet the needs and priorities of LDCs.
Her Excellency pointed out that the State of Qatar's commitment had been materialized by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's announcement of USD 60 million in support of implementing the program's activities.
This pledge, HE the Minister noted, had been translated into tangible partnerships, with Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) signing two agreements in September 2025 with the Office of the High Commissioner, with a total amount of USD 21 million to strengthen resilience and establish a regional food storage mechanism.
Al Misnad explained that the State of Qatar looks forward to hosting the high-level midterm review meeting from March 25-27, 2027. She emphasized that this hosting underlines Qatar's leading role in supporting the issues facing LDCs, along with its commitment to converting the DPoA into a concrete reality that achieves sustainable growth.
Her Excellency stressed that the success of the international endeavor lies in the full implementation of the DPoA and translating commitments into reality.
She called for strengthening international combined efforts to support the peoples of LDCs in achieving comprehensive and sustainable development. (QNA)
