Beijing, June 22 (QNA) - China voiced support on Monday for mediation efforts by Qatar, Pakistan and other parties aimed at advancing negotiations between Iran and the United States, expressing hope that the two sides would maintain diplomatic engagement and build on recent momentum toward easing tensions.
"We hope Iran and the US will maintain the momentum of negotiations, continue to meet each other halfway and work toward positive progress in the talks," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said during a regular press briefing in Beijing.
The remarks came after the first round of high-level talks involving representatives of Iran, the United States, Qatar and Pakistan concluded in Switzerland. The discussions were described as positive and constructive and were held within the framework of the memorandum of understanding reached by Tehran and Washington to end the recent escalation and address outstanding issues.
