2026 World Cup: Argentina Advances to Round of 32 With 2-0 Win Over Austria
Dallas (US), June 22 (QNA) - Argentina secured its place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Austria on Monday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, in the second match of Group J.
Lionel Messi scored both goals for Argentina, in the 38th minute and in stoppage time at 90+5.
Argentina now leads the group with 6 points, 3 ahead of Austria. Jordan and Algeria, both without points, will play their second match on Tuesday.
With his two goals, Messi became the all-time top scorer in World Cup history with 18 goals, surpassing Miroslav Klose of Germany, who had 16.
Messi, who in Argentina's previous match against Algeria became the first player to appear in six different World Cups, has now scored 122 goals in 201 international matches.
Argentina also extended its unbeaten streak in World Cup matches to eight.
Argentina will face Jordan in its final group stage match on June 28, also in Dallas. (QNA)
