Doha, June 20 (QNA) - Organizers of the Doha Diamond League 2026 implemented a series of sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the competition and promoting a culture of recycling among spectators and participating athletes, as part of the event's ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

This year's edition showcased a range of sustainable products manufactured from materials recycled from waste generated during the previous edition of the event, reflecting the success of sustainability efforts undertaken by the Qatar Athletics Federation in cooperation with its partners.

The products included bags, travel pouches, luggage tags, cup holders, and commemorative items carrying the Doha Diamond League identity and its slogan, "From the Dunes to Glory."

As part of the initiative, a dedicated collection container was installed within the championship venue to gather used paper materials for recycling and reuse in the production of new materials and products. The measure is intended to support circular economy principles and reduce waste generated during the event.

Commenting on the initiative, President of the Qatar Athletics Federation Mohammed Issa Al Fadala said sustainability has become one of the key pillars of organizing the Doha Diamond League, with efforts focused on ensuring that the event leaves a positive legacy that extends beyond athletic competition.

He explained that the federation, in partnership with organizations specializing in paper and plastic recycling, is working to strengthen environmental awareness and demonstrate the role major sporting events can play in advancing sustainability goals.

Al Fadala expressed pride in the recycled materials and products featured during this year's edition of the Diamond League, describing them as a tangible outcome of the federation's environmental initiatives.

He stressed that the Qatar Athletics Federation remains committed to continuing programs and initiatives that deliver measurable results in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices.

The sustainability measures form part of the federation's broader efforts to integrate environmental principles across all aspects of event organization, in line with Qatar's vision for sustainable development and its commitment to hosting major international sporting events according to the highest global standards.
