San Francisco, June 20 (QNA) - Paraguay secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Turkiye in their Group D match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, keeping their hopes of reaching the Round of 32 alive, while Turkiye were officially eliminated after suffering their second consecutive defeat.
Paraguay settled the match with an early goal from midfielder Matias Galarza, who found the net just 64 seconds after kickoff with a powerful low strike that beat the Turkish goalkeeper.
Galarza's goal became the fastest of the current tournament, surpassing the previous record set by Morocco's Ismael Saibari, who scored after 71 seconds against Scotland.
With the result, the United States secured top spot in Group D with six points from two consecutive victories over Paraguay and Australia, confirming its qualification for the next round. The identity of the second team to advance from the group will be decided in the final round of matches. (QNA)
