Snapchat Launches Augmented Reality Glasses After 5 Years of Development
Washington, June 17 (QNA) - Snapchat has officially unveiled the new generation of its augmented reality glasses, "SPECS", announcing its transition from the stage of experiments intended for developers to offering the product for sale to consumers for the first time, after five years of development.
During the opening speech of the Augmented World Expo (AWE) exhibition in Long Beach, California, the company's CEO Evan Spiegel, reviewed the new glasses, describing them as representing "the beginning of a new era of computing".
The glasses come at a price of $2,195, with improvements that include a thinner design, a wider field of view, and battery life of up to four hours, compared to the previous version intended for developers.
The glasses rely on advanced augmented reality technologies, and Snapchat describes them as a "wearable computer", as they include an integrated browser, and provide contextual artificial intelligence assistance based on partnerships with OpenAI and Google.
The company noted that the glasses support hundreds of augmented reality applications developed over the past years, including group games and practical applications that leverage the capabilities of multimedia artificial intelligence.
The company also announced an updated version of the augmented reality application development platform "Lens Studio", to facilitate and accelerate the development of new applications for glasses. (QNA)
