Doha, June 17 (QNA) - Qatar's Cabinet has welcomed HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's participation in the G7 Summit in France, describing the invitation as recognition of the country's growing international role in promoting peace, development and regional stability.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired on Wednesday by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, was held at the Amiri Diwan in Doha.
According to a statement delivered by HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, ministers praised HH the Amir's attendance at the summit in Evian-les-Bains and highlighted his discussions with HE President Donald Trump of the United States of America on the sidelines of the gathering. The Cabinet said the meeting reflected the depth of strategic ties between the State of Qatar and the United States and a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in support of global peace and security.
The Cabinet also reiterated the State of Qatar's welcome of a recent agreement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran on a memorandum of understanding, describing it as an important step towards ending conflict, safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and supporting regional and international stability.
Ministers commended efforts by both Washington and Tehran to resolve differences through dialogue and praised the Islamic Republic of Pakistan's role, along with that of regional and international partners, in helping facilitate the agreement. The Cabinet also highlighted Qatar's diplomatic efforts in supporting mediation initiatives and expressed hope that future negotiations would lead to a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement.
Separately, the Cabinet welcomed Qatar's ranking as the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa in the 2026 Global Peace Index. Ministers said the result reinforced Qatar's reputation as one of the region's most stable and secure nations.
On domestic affairs, the Cabinet reviewed a proposal from the Shura Council for a draft law on the digital protection of children. The proposed legislation seeks to regulate the use of digital platforms by individuals under the age of 16 and strengthen safeguards against online risks. The draft was referred to the relevant authorities for further study.
The Cabinet also took note of the Shura Council's approval of a new animal health law, designed to modernize existing legislation, strengthen disease prevention and control measures, and align Qatar's regulatory framework with international standards. Officials said the law would support food security objectives and the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
Ministers further noted the approval of amendments to legislation governing real estate brokerage activities. The changes would transfer regulatory responsibility for the sector from the Ministry of Justice to the Real Estate Regulatory Authority, with the aim of improving oversight and supporting sector development.
The Cabinet additionally approved a cooperation agreement between Qatar's Ministry of Sports and Youth and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on combating doping in sport.
The meeting concluded with a review of the 2025 annual report of Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations and a report on participation in the 27th meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council transport ministers. (QNA)
