Arab League Assistant Secretary-General to QNA: Qatar Played a Positive Role in Reaching US-Iran Agreement
Cairo, June 17 (QNA) - Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Political Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Dr. Khaled bin Mohammed Manzalawi, praised the State of Qatar's efforts that helped lead to an agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Manzalawi said that Qatar played a constructive role with Pakistan in sparing the region the consequences of the conflict, which had resulted in significant human and economic losses. He noted that the Gulf states, Jordan and Iraq had been affected by the crisis, as had the global economy.
Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Political Affairs Sector at the Arab League added that the efforts undertaken by Qatar and Pakistan demonstrated that peaceful solutions are the objective pursued by Arab states, stressing that multilateral action can produce meaningful and effective positive outcomes.
He explained that the agreement reached between the United States and Iran came at a particularly difficult time for the region and contributed to achieving a ceasefire. He added that a 60-day period would follow to initiate sustained negotiations aimed at securing regional peace and stability.
In this context, Manzalawi expressed hope that the region would remain stable during the 60-day period and that the sovereignty of Arab states would be respected, with no interference in their internal affairs, thereby paving the way for lasting and sustainable peace. He noted that this is the goal to which the Arab League aspires.
Concluding his remarks to QNA, Manzalawi stressed that the security of the Gulf region is an extension of Arab national security. He said conditions should return to what they were before Feb. 28, particularly with regard to freedom of navigation and ensuring the security of maritime routes. (QNA)
