Education Ministry Inaugurates Interactive Chambers to Augment Learning for Students with Disabilities
Doha, June 14 (QNA) - The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) inaugurated an interactive and supportive learning space at Al Hidaya School for Special Needs Primary School Boys and Girls in Doha.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, alongside several assistant undersecretaries and the Ministry's leaders.
In a statement on Sunday, MoEHE shared that this project is part of its efforts to upgrade educational services afforded to students with disabilities and to establish state-of-the-art and comprehensive educational climates that would help bolster their capabilities and enable them to effectively learn and engage based on top-notch pedagogical practices.
The Department of Special Education and Inclusive Education took on the mantle of retrofitting this chamber and operationalizing its educational programs, the statement reads.
It added that this is a fitting move that aligns with the sensory and developmental needs of students receiving special education services, and ensures they can thoroughly capitalize on instructional and assistive technologies.
The Principal of Al Hidaya School for Special Needs Primary School Boys and Girls, Latifa Saad Al Nuaimi, said having these educational chambers in place stems from an enduring belief that all students have God-given capabilities and talents that deserve to be unearthed, as they are entitled to an educational environment that embraces their varied needs.
The project included the Immersive Reality Room, which offers an educational environment that simulates real-life experiences utilizing interactive digital technologies that help advance students' knowledge, kinetic abilities, and communication skills, offering them a more interactive educational opportunity that is closely linked to real-life experience.
By and large, the project also includes a fully integrated interactive sensory room that combines sensory stimulation and emotional regulation.
The space is designed to be customized to each student's individual needs, supporting attention, focus, communication, and interaction with the surrounding environment, and enhancing readiness for learning and engagement in educational activities.
Intriguingly, the school has been retrofitted with an ultraviolet illumination room that helps develop visual and spatial awareness through secure and guided sensory activities.
This is alongside a chamber for Assistive Technology (AT) showcasing a plethora of kits and modern educational technologies, including interactive carpets (interactive floor systems) and sensory tents, transforming the learning process into an interactive experience that combines movement, exploration, and learning.
This project demonstrates MoEHE's commitment to enhancing inclusive education, as well as ancillary services for students with disabilities in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.
This vision emphasizes the importance of investing in human capital and offering fair and thoroughgoing educational opportunities that help community members effectively engage in the path toward national development. (QNA)
