Mexico City, June 14 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the state of Guerrero in southwest Mexico, with no reports of injuries or significant damage.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers in the Pacific coastal region.

Mexico is prone to seismic and volcanic activity due to its geological location at the intersection of several tectonic plates, most notably the North American Plate, the Pacific Plate, and the Cocos Plate.

The region experiences more than 90 earthquakes exceeding magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale annually. The 1985 earthquake that struck Mexico City remains one of the most devastating in the country's history, registering a magnitude of 8.0, and resulting in fatalities and extensive material damage.
