US-Based "Anthropic" Disables Latest AI Models to Review Digital Safety Systems
Washington, June 13 (QNA) - US-based Anthropic has officially announced the sudden suspension and disabling of its latest and most powerful artificial-intelligence models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, for all users worldwide.
The move was purposefully undertaken to review its digital safety systems and reinforce anti-fraud safeguards.
The comprehensive global shutdown stems from the complex technical requirements associated with the instantaneous verification of the identities and locations of hundreds of millions of users across the company's platforms, prompting the company to disable both models entirely to ensure that they square with newly introduced regulatory standards.
The technical antecedents of this decision revolve around security concerns related to digital circumvention techniques.
Safety reviews indicated that the protection systems embedded in Fable 5 could potentially be bypassed, which may allow its advanced capabilities to be exploited to uncover sensitive software vulnerabilities and develop sophisticated cyberattacks.
Anthropic explained, however, that the potential flaw is limited in scope and doesn't confer capabilities beyond those available in competing models currently on the market.
As a corollary of the suspension, users attempting to run Fable 5 on the Claude platform will encounter an error message.
Out of an abundance of caution, the firm has directed users to transition temporarily to stable alternative models such as Opus 4.8, which continues to operate normally and remains unscathed by the disruption. (QNA)
