Jordan Slams Hoisting of Israeli Occupation Flags in Al-Aqsa Mosque
Amman, May 31 (QNA) - Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremists on Sunday, as well as their provocative and reckless actions of hoisting occupation flags and chanting slogans inside its compound under the maximum security of the Israeli police.
This is an open breach of international law, a condemned escalation, and an unacceptable provocation that must cease immediately, the Ministry said.
The Ministry's official spokesperson, Fouad Majali, reaffirmed Jordan's flat-out rejection and vigorous condemnation of the continued incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque and the ensuing provocations, describing them as a blatant violation of the historic and legal status quo at the Mosque, a rejected attempt to divide it in temporal and spatial terms, and a desecration of its sanctity.
He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Majali reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque- with its entire area of 144 dunams- is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, stressing that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, has a sole legal carte blanche with exclusive jurisdiction over administering all affairs of the Mosque and regulating access thereto.
He warned of the consequences of these unabated breaches and provocations, calling on the international community to adopt a resolute position obliging Israel, as the occupying power, to halt all its irresponsible practices and ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to halt its unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.
