Khartoum, May 02 (QNA) - Five civilians were killed by a drone strike that targeted a civilian vehicle in the Omdurman area, west of Sudan's capital, Khartoum, on Saturday.

According to Emergency Lawyers, a Sudanese independent legal team dedicated to documenting violations during the conflict, a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces targeted a civilian car in the southern rural area of Omdurman, killing all five on board.

The legal team pointed out that the vehicle had been coming from the Sheikh Al Siddiq area in the White Nile state and was on its way to a market in Omdurman, noting that the incident reflects the continued targeting of civilians on public roads and in populated areas.

It described the attack as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, which requires the protection of civilians and prohibits targeting them, stressing that such acts amount to serious crimes that warrant accountability.

It also called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and for ensuring their protection and the safety of roads and residential areas.

No official statement has yet been issued by government authorities in Khartoum or by the Rapid Support Forces regarding the incident.

The attack comes days after a drone strike targeted a hospital in the Jebel Aulia area south of Khartoum, the first such attack on the capital in months, amid a growing use of drones in military operations across the country. (QNA)
