Brussels, May 22 (QNA) - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement of sending 5,000 American troops to Poland, while simultaneously affirming that Europe will continue to gradually strengthen its defense capabilities to reduce its dependence on the United States.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a NATO meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden, Rutte said the current path is toward building a stronger NATO and a stronger Europe, while gradually reducing reliance on a single ally.
He added that this trend will continue, referring to the efforts of European countries to assume greater responsibilities within the alliance's collective defense system.
The NATO Secretary General welcomed the US President's announcement of the troop deployment to Poland, noting that the alliance's military leadership is working to finalize the details of this move. (QNA)
