Doha 2026 Gulf Games: Qatar Padel Team Open Campaign with Dominant Victory over Saudi Arabia
Doha, May 16 (QNA) - Qatar's national padel team launched its campaign at the 4th Gulf Games Doha 2026 with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Saudi Arabia on Saturday at the Aspire courts.
The match was attended by HE President of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Qatar's players dominated all three matches of the encounter. In the opening match, the duo of Rashid Nawaf and Mishari Nawaf secured a comfortable straight-sets win over Saudi Arabia's Sattam Al Shahrani and Mohammed Al Jaziri by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
In the second match, Issa Shanan and Khalid Saadoun Al Kuwari defeated Ali Al Buraih and Abdullah Al Zayed in two competitive sets, winning 7-6 and 6-4.
The third match saw Mohammed Saadoun Al Kuwari and Hassan Wali complete the clean sweep with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mohammed Al Sulaiman and Abdulrahman Al Jabrin.
Also attending the matches were HE Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Vice President of the Organizing Committee of the 4th Gulf Games, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain as well as Tareq Darwish Zainal, President of the Asian Padel Federation and Secretary-General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel and Badminton Federation.
Qatar's players expressed their satisfaction with the opening victory and their determination to maintain momentum throughout the tournament.
Mohammed Saadoun Al Kuwari described the team's start as "very positive," expressing hope that Qatar's players would continue their strong performances in the upcoming matches and ultimately reach the podium on the final day of competition.
Meanwhile, Issa Shanan said the convincing win over Saudi Arabia in all three matches would serve as a major motivational boost for the squad ahead of the remaining fixtures.
He added that the Qatari team entered the tournament in peak condition after participating in several training camps and facing high-level international teams in preparation for the Gulf Games.
Shanan also emphasized the team's ambition to continue winning and secure the gold medal. (QNA)
