Gulf Games Doha 2026: Qatar Grab Gold, Two Bronze Medals in Fencing
Doha, May 15 (QNA) - Team Qatar on Friday added three more medals to their tally at the 4th Gulf Games Doha 2026, securing one gold and two bronze medals in the fencing competitions currently underway in Doha. The multi-sport event continues until May 22.
Qatar's gold medal came in the men's team foil event, where the quartet of Khalid Hussein, Abdullah Khalifa, Ali Turki Al Adhba, and Abdulrahman Bougreb delivered an impressive performance to claim first place. Bahrain finished second to take silver, while Kuwait secured the bronze medal.
The first bronze medal for Team Qatar was earned in the men's team أ©pأ©e competition. The squad, featuring Youssef Abdel Tawab, Mohammed Abdulali, Mohammed Al Hazzaa, and Abdulrahman Al Jadara, finished third after a series of highly competitive bouts. Saudi Arabia captured the gold medal, while the United Arab Emirates claimed silver.
Qatar's second bronze medal of the day came in the women's team foil event. The trio of Zikrayat Al Abdullah, Sheikha Ali, and Fatima Al Maadheed secured third place, while the UAE won gold and Saudi Arabia took silver.
In the women's team Epee competition, Kuwait claimed the gold medal and first place, followed by the UAE with silver, while Saudi Arabia finished third.
With today's three-medal haul, Qatar's fencing team increased its overall tally at the Games to five medals. On the opening day of competition, Ali Turki Al Athba won gold in the men's individual foil event, while Khalid Hussein secured silver in the same discipline.
President of the Qatar Fencing Federation, Abdullah Ali Al Ghanem praised the team's achievements, describing the results as outstanding despite the limited preparation period ahead of the tournament.
"The championship preparations were not ideal and the training period was short, but we managed to win gold in the team competition and collect a total of five medals; two gold, one silver, and two bronze," Al Ghanem said.
He added that the achievements reflect the continued development of fencing in Qatar and the growing ability of Qatari athletes to compete strongly at the Gulf level, while thanking the players and technical and administrative staff for their efforts.
Director of the Fencing Competitions at the Games, Khalid Suwaid also commended the high level displayed by the participating athletes. He noted that the performances and results underline the rapid progress of fencing across the Gulf region and the ongoing investment in athlete development.
Suwaid further praised the professional organization of the tournament in Doha, stating that all technical, administrative, and organizational aspects had been delivered to the highest standards, creating an ideal atmosphere for both athletes and spectators. (QNA)
