Peter Magyar Voted in as Prime Minister of Hungary
Budapest, May 09 (QNA) - Peter Magyar was sworn in as prime minister of Hungary in the country's parliament on Saturday, following 16 years of his predecessor Viktor Orban's rule.
With Magyar's Tisza party holding 141 of the parliament's 199 seats, the new premier received a majority of 140 votes to 54, with one abstention.
In his first statement after taking office, Magyar said that he will not rule over Hungary, rather he will serve his country, vowing to hold corrupt officials and embezzlers of public funds accountable.
The same session saw Agnes Forsthoffer elected as speaker of parliament by an overwhelming majority.
Immediately after her election, she ordered the European Union flag to be raised again over the parliament building after it had been removed during Orban's term. (QNA)
