Nikkei Edges Higher on Tech Gains

Tokyo, May 1 (QNA) - Japan's Nikkei index closed slightly higher on Friday, supported by gains in technology stocks.
The Nikkei 225 rose 0.38% to finish at 59,513.12 points, while the broader Topix index edged up 0.04% to 3,728.73, posting a weekly gain of 0.3%.
Technology shares led the advance, with Tokyo Electron surging 6.89% after reporting a 36% increase in net profit for the six months ending in September.
Shares of SoftBank Group climbed 3.93%, while Sumitomo jumped 17% on the back of higher annual earnings. Mitsubishi also gained 4.59%, contributing to the overall positive tone in the Japanese market. (QNA)
