Berlin, April 27 (QNA) - German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called on the United Nations today to undertake internal reforms to become more effective and maintain its credibility in resolving conflicts.

In remarks before departing for New York, the German minister urged members of the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities and fulfill their roles in the UN's most powerful body, criticizing what he described as the repeated obstruction of the Council's work.

If the Security Council assumes its responsibilities, he said, it will strengthen the international system, adding that the UN must become a central hub for diplomacy in current crises concerning peace and security issues.

The UN headquarters in New York will host the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) today.
