Tunis, April 26 (QNA) - Qatar claimed one gold and one silver medal on the opening day of the Arab U20 Athletics Championships in Tunis, which runs until April 30 and features 320 athletes representing 15 Arab nations.

Mubarak Saeed secured gold in the 3,000 meters, clocking 8:15.43 to record his season's best performance. The silver medal was won by Saleh Mahmoud in the shot put event.

Meanwhile, Yousef Abdulaziz qualified for the final of the 400 meters, boosting Qatar's hopes of adding another medal when he competes in the final on Monday.

Qatar is competing in the championships with a strong group of young athletes across track and field events, including the 400m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x400m relay, pole vault, discus throw, and hammer throw.

The Qatar Athletics Federation is aiming to reinforce its strong standing at the Arab level, while also targeting qualification standards for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in the United States later this summer. (QNA)
