ICAO Condemns Iranian Attacks on Gulf States, Jordan, Supported by Qatari Joint Paper
Doha, April 02 (QNA) - The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) announced that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has strongly condemned Iran's missile and drone attacks on Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan.
ICAO highlighted that the attacks forced emergency measures, including airspace closures and flight diversions, disrupting global aviation.
The organization classified the strikes as a direct threat to civil aviation safety and a clear violation of the Chicago Convention and the UN Charter.
The resolution, adopted during ICAO's 237th session, was based on a joint working paper submitted by Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
It condemned Iran for breaching the sovereignty of affected states, called for an immediate halt to its attacks, and referred the matter to relevant UN bodies for ongoing review.
HE Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani described the joint paper as a crucial step in safeguarding airspace and regional civil aviation.
He reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to international and regional coordination to ensure aviation safety and warned that any threats to air travel would face a firm response.
QCAA's Acting President Mohammed bin Faleh Al Hajri noted that the resolution reflects global consensus on protecting airspace and enhancing aviation safety, while Qatar continues precautionary measures to maintain safe and efficient operations amid regional tensions. (QNA)
