Qatar-Affiliated Cultural Center in Berlin Hosts Panel on World Autism Awareness Day
Berlin, April 02 (QNA) - The Arab Cultural House "Al Diwan", affiliated with the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Germany, has hosted a panel discussion in Berlin to mark World Autism Awareness Day.
The panel featured specialists in psychiatry and professionals in the field of training and rehabilitating individuals with autism to facilitate their professional and social integration.
German political figures involved in social and integration issues also participated. Among them was Wilfried Oellers, member of the Bundestag's Social Affairs Committee, who emphasized the importance of utilizing the abilities of individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
Dr. Lawrence Al Hanawi, director of Al Diwan, explained that the panel reflected the State of Qatar's commitment to empowering people with autism, and promoting inclusive dialogue.
He pointed out that this disorder is often accompanied by creative skills and abilities, and that awareness campaigns should focus on guiding individuals with autism to capitalize on their talents.
Writer and parliamentarian Melanie Matzies observed that while societies have made progress in understanding and accepting the inclusion of individuals with autism, the process is far from complete. She noted that many people struggle to differentiate between approaches to dealing with autism and other neuropsychological disorders.
Researcher Stefanie Fuhrmann, in turn, offered a different perspective, suggesting that autism should be viewed not as a neuropsychological disorder, but as a distinct pattern of human behavior. (QNA)
