Spanish PM: Spain to Propose EU Cancellation of Partnership Agreement with Israel
Madrid, April 19 (QNA) - Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that he will propose on Tuesday to the European Union (EU) cancellation of the association agreement with Israel.
In remarks on Sunday, Sanchez said that any government violating international law cannot be considered a partner for Spain, adding that it is time to end the EU-Israel association agreement.
He stated that the Spanish government will present a proposal to Europe on Tuesday aimed at terminating the 2000 association agreement between the EU and Israel, stressing that a government which violates international law cannot be a partner of the EU.
More than 60 human rights, humanitarian, and trade union organizations, within a coalition led by International Cooperation for Development and Solidarity (CIDSE), had called two days earlier on the European Union to adopt measures including suspending the association agreement with Israel, banning trade with illegal settlements, and halting all arms transfers to and through Israel.
