11 Killed, 20 Injured After Bus Plunges Into Ravine in Ecuador
Quito, April 16 (QNA) – Eleven people were killed and 20 others injured Thursday when a bus plunged into a ravine in southern Ecuador.
The accident occurred near Moyetoro in Azuay province when the bus veered off the road and fell into the ravine before catching fire, the rescue service said in a statement. The injured were transported to various health facilities in the area.
Road accidents are a leading cause of death in Ecuador, with one person dying in a traffic accident every four hours, according to the Ecuadorian Traffic Commission. In 2024, the country recorded 21,220 traffic accidents, resulting in around 2,300 deaths and 18,000 injuries, according to official statistics. (QNA)
