Beirut, April 11 (QNA) - The Lebanese presidency announced today that an agreement has been reached to hold a meeting next Tuesday at the US Department of State to discuss declaring a ceasefire and setting a date to begin negotiations between Lebanon and Israel under US sponsorship.
In a statement, the media office of the Lebanese presidency said that the move comes following an initiative launched by President Joseph Aoun, which was based on diplomatic efforts through declaring a ceasefire and moving toward direct negotiations with the Israeli occupation. It added that, after recent international and Arab contacts, the US administration decided to assign its State Department to act as mediator and to host the meeting next Tuesday in Washington.
Last Wednesday, the Israeli occupation launched its largest attack on Lebanon following the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, which did not include Lebanon. (QNA)
