China, Pakistan Present 5-Point Proposal on Restoring Peace, Stability in Middle East
Beijing, March 31 (QNA) - China and Pakistan put forward a five-point proposal on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf region and the Middle East during talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
According to Xinhua, the proposals include immediately ceasing hostilities, initiating peace talks as soon as possible, ensuring the safety of non-military targets, ensuring the safety of navigation, and safeguarding the primacy of the UN Charter.
A press release from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that the two ministers discussed the changing regional situation and stressed the urgent need to coordinate diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and humanitarian repercussions in conflict-affected areas.
They reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only possible ways to resolve conflicts, and urged all parties to refrain from using force or threatening to use it during negotiations.
Both sides urged all parties to the conflict to strictly adhere to international humanitarian law.
China and Pakistan also called for ensuring the security of global shipping lanes, especially the strategic Strait of Hormuz, stressing the need to protect ships and their crews and restore normal commercial maritime traffic through this vital energy corridor as soon as possible.
The two countries reaffirmed the primacy of the UN Charter and urged the strengthening of multilateral cooperation and support for the establishment of a comprehensive peace framework based on international law to achieve lasting regional stability. (QNA)
