OIC Blasts Israeli Knesset's Approval of Bill Executing Palestinian Prisoners
Jeddah, March 31 (QNA) - The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's approval of a bill to execute Palestinian prisoners.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Secretariat deemed this move a dangerous and unprecedented granting of a license for murder and political execution against the Palestinian people.
This act runs afoul of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the statement warned.
It warned of the gravity of the crimes to which thousands of Palestinian prisoners are subjected in Israeli occupation dungeons, including torture, ill-treatment, humiliation, terror, rape, starvation, and the systematic deprivation of the foremost human rights.
Direct targeting of their lives amounts to an extension of the ongoing crime of genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem), the statement recalled.
In addition, the statement called on the international community, namely the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, to take the necessary measures against the Israeli Knesset.
These measures, the Secretariat said, should include putting in place mechanisms of accountability against Israel, the occupying power, and stepping up pressure to abolish this unlawful bill, protect the rights of Palestinian prisoners, as well as work towards their release. (QNA)
