Kuwait Says Air Pollution Within Limits After Drone Attack on Airport Fuel Tanks
Kuwait, March 25 (QNA) - The Environment Public Authority (EPA) of Kuwait has affirmed that environmental monitoring data collected through its ambient air monitoring network, as well as the monitoring system operated by Kuwait Oil Company, indicate that ambient air pollutant concentrations remain within established health-based and environmental regulatory standards, with no exceedances recorded to date.
Upon receiving notification of an attack on fuel tanks at Kuwait International Airport, the EPA immediately mobilized field teams to conduct on-site monitoring and to track the development and dispersion of the smoke plume generated by the incident, said Shaikha Al Ibrahim, Official Spokesperson and Director of Public Relations and Media at the EPA.
She added that, in coordination with the meteorological authority, atmospheric dispersion modeling and trajectory analysis were conducted to forecast the transport and dispersion of the smoke plume and to delineate its geographic extent across the State of Kuwait.
This analysis was used to identify potentially affected areas and to support the implementation of appropriate response and mitigation measures, Al Ibrahim noted.
Al Ibrahim confirmed that the Authority continues ambient air monitoring and surveillance operations 24/7, in coordination with relevant agencies, to ensure public health protection and safety.
Earlier Wednesday, at dawn, the Kuwait Directorate General of Civil Aviation reported that unmanned aerial vehicles targeted a fuel storage tank at Kuwait International Airport, igniting a fire at the site, with no reported human casualties. (QNA)
