Lebanese Military Chief, UN Secretary-General Discuss Regional Developments
Beirut, March 14 (QNA) - Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces Rodolphe Haykal met in Beirut on Saturday with Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.
A statement by the Lebanese military reported that the meeting stressed the importance of enforcing international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, and living up to the accord of cessation of hostilities, as well as implementing the military's plan in southern Lebanon.
Haykal praised UNIFIL's role in southern Lebanon, underscoring the criticality of collaboration and coordination between the military and UNIFIL in the wake of the ongoing delicate situation, the statement read.
Lebanon is coming under a military escalation whose tempo has increased on the heels of the US-Israeli war on Iran, as Israeli combat jets have ramped up their bombing raids since March 2026 on southern Lebanon, the southern suburbs of Beirut, and several towns, causing the deaths and injuries of more than 2,000 civilians, in addition to the forced displacement of around one million people.
