Egyptian, UK FMs Discuss Regional Developments by Phone
Cairo, February 06 (QNA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aatty held a phone call with his British counterpart, Yvette Cooper, to discuss recent regional developments and ways to enhance bilateral relations.
According to a statement by Egypt's Foreign Ministry, the call focused on efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
Abdel Aatty briefed the British minister on Egypt's diplomatic engagements aimed at containing rising tensions, stressing the importance of reaching a consensual settlement on the Iranian nuclear file that addresses the concerns of all parties.
On Gaza, the Egyptian foreign minister reviewed ongoing efforts related to the next phase of the US peace plan, underscoring the need to support Gaza's national administration committee, deploy an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, and secure Israel's withdrawal from the Strip as a step toward early recovery and reconstruction, alongside advancing a political horizon for a two-state solution.
Regarding Sudan, Abdel Aatty highlighted Egypt's efforts within the quadrilateral mechanism, emphasizing the urgency of reaching a humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and a Sudanese-owned political process, while reaffirming Egypt's firm support for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
