Tokyo, February 05 (QNA) - The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies participated in the 5th University Presidents for Peace Conference, held in Hiroshima, Japan, in a joint coordination between the Presidency of the Arab Universities Union and Hiroshima University.

The conference aimed to review the contribution of universities in supporting and promoting peace efforts.

The Institute stated in a press release Thursday that President of the Institute Dr. Abdulwahab Al Effandi highlighted during the conference the role of the Institute and the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in supporting peace, humanitarian work, and sustainability, through several programs and centers, including the Conflict and Humanitarian Action Management Program, the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, the Executive Master's Program in Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation, and the Critical Security Studies Program, as well as the Institute's and Center's various research activities and events.

The press release noted that the conference's final statement highlighted the Hiroshima meeting as an important landmark for benefiting from humanitarian experiences, most notably Hiroshima's experience in shedding light on the high cost of conflict, as well as resilience and determination, which enabled rapid recovery and reconstruction.

The statement also emphasized the commitment of the participating universities to build a network to support educational initiatives in the fields of peace and sustainability, and to enhance educational outcomes that broaden horizons within university communities and wider societies, in addition to expanding academic, intellectual, and cultural opportunities for students and young researchers in areas that broaden global awareness, and promote peace and sustainability in all societies through cooperation and coordination among universities.

The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies added that the Institute's President discussed, on the sidelines of the conference, mechanisms for cooperation with Hiroshima University and with the presidents of the participating universities in several fields. (QNA)
