Egyptian Foreign Minister Discusses Regional Developments with Greek Counterpart
Cairo, February 27 (QNA) - Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Friday with his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, to discuss the latest regional developments as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
During the call, Abdelatty stressed the need to intensify efforts to expedite implementation of the second phase of the US president's plan regarding the Gaza Strip, and to provide full support to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. He also underscored the importance of deploying an international stabilization force to ensure compliance with the ceasefire, describing it as a necessary step to pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction efforts. He further emphasized the need to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip in light of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions there.
Regarding broader regional developments, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm support for diplomatic efforts and the continuation of the negotiating track between the United States and Iran, urging the avoidance of escalation in the region. He stressed the importance of resolving outstanding differences between the two countries through negotiations over Iran's nuclear file, away from military solutions, in support of regional and international security and stability.
The two ministers affirmed the importance of continued coordination and consultation within the framework of the strategic relations between their countries, and of supporting all efforts aimed at de-escalation in the region. They stressed that diplomatic solutions remain the only way to prevent the region from sliding into further instability.
On bilateral ties, Abdelatty expressed his aspiration to further enhance economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and to expand bilateral cooperation into new areas. He also praised Greece's support for Egypt within the institutions of the European Union.
