Qatar Sets Reduced Working Hours for Public Sector During Ramadan
Doha, February 16 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has reduced official working hours for government employees during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, according to a circular issued by the Cabinet's General Secretariat.
The decision, Circular No. (1) of 2026, was issued following a proposal by the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau.
Under the directives, official working hours for civil servants at ministries, government agencies and public institutions will be five hours per day, from 09:00 to 14:00. The circular allows employees, subject to work requirements, to arrive as late as 10:00, provided they complete the full five-hour working day.
It also stipulates that remote working will be applied during Ramadan, with no more than 30% of total staff permitted to work from home. Priority for remote work will be given to Qatari mothers and people with disabilities, as long as operational needs are not affected.
For the health and education sectors, the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education will determine official working hours in line with the nature of their respective duties.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is expected to begin on Wednesday or Thursday, subject to the sighting of the moon. (QNA)
