Doha, February 10 (QNA) - Qatar News Agency (QNA) took part in the National Sports Day under the theme "I Chose Sport," with the attendance of its staffers and community members.

The participants engaged in a mini football match, as well as wide-ranging sports games that had been prepared for the spectators and participants from various age groups.

The arena of Al-Gharafa Club, which hosted the events, witnessed a family-friendly sporting atmosphere, and the events attracted a large audience of spectators, especially youth and children.

Amid the distinctive family sports environment, the events reflected the community's engagement with the Sports Day message, turning the occasion into an open space for full community participation and promoting physical activity and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

To mark this occasion, HE Director-General of QNA Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi underscored that the State of Qatar, led by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, continues to strengthen its global standing in sports as one of the core pillars for building humans and enhancing public health, in support of the comprehensive development pathway the nation pursues based on Qatar National Vision 2030.

His Excellency added that sports earns a pivotal standing in national policies due to its effective role in promoting lifestyle and achieving sustainable development, noting that the State of Qatar has succeeded in transforming sports into an enduring culture among community members, as well as a lifestyle that includes all members.

His Excellency also said that the National Sports Day, which takes place every year on the second Tuesday of February, was a unique to the State of Qatar among nations of the world, and aims to encourage practicing sports as a lifestyle that boosts the physical and health capabilities of every single member of the community. He said that QNA has been committed to taking part in Sports Day and highlighting the human and social aspect of sports by organizing sports activities for its employees and their families and by the extensive coverage of the different sporting events, thereby contributing to spreading awareness of the significance of sports and its role in building a wholesome and balanced community.

HE Al Rumaihi added that the State of Qatar was among the first nations globally to prioritize the various forms of sports, recalling that the year 2025 witnessed the hosting of many major sporting tournaments, including global and continental championships in multiple sports, which ultimately reinforced the nation's sports presence globally and enhanced Doha's standing as the capital of sports and innovation.

He went on to stress that these organizational successes came by virtue of the constant investments in sports infrastructure, particularly the sophisticated facilities established to host FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which genuinely contributed to having an integrated sports environment in place that provides community members with the opportunity to practice many kinds of sports, which, at the end of the day, bolster their physical and mental capabilities, as well as health consciousness.

He noted that Qatar's success in sports and organizing major sporting events demonstrated the country's urban and developmental progress in all fields, highlighting that sports played a role in showcasing Qatar's renaissance regionally and internationally.

HE Director-General of Qatar News Agency concluded his statement by stressing that the country's sports achievements reflected Qatar's national vision in terms of supporting sports and enhancing its role in society, noting that sport will continue to be a pillar of comprehensive development and an integral component of a healthy, united society.

Sports Day is one of Qatar's most important events, playing a role in helping individuals lead a healthy life. (QNA)
