Hamad International Airport and Doha Film Institute Bring 'Made in Qatar' Stories to the Terminal
Doha, November 08 (QNA) - Hamad International Airport (HIA), in collaboration with Doha Film Institute (DFI), has launched the 'Made in Qatar' Screening Room in Concourse D. Open from 08 November to 27 December 2026, the experience presents a selection of short films by Qatari Directors and Filmmakers who have made Qatar their home, offering departing and transiting passengers a window into the country's people, traditions and contemporary perspectives.
The Screening Room forms part of HIA's collaboration with DFI, Qatar's leading cultural organisation that presents Doha Film Festival, for which HIA serves as official "Airport Partner". The partnership brings together DFI's support for homegrown cinema and HIA's global reach to give Qatar-based Filmmakers a global platform.
For many international passengers, HIA is their first introduction to Qatar and, for those in transit, may be their only experience of the country. As a global gateway, the airport plays an important cultural role in presenting Qatar's identity, heritage and creativity to the world. Through film, the Screening Room offers travellers a more personal connection with the nation and its creative community.
Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, Chief Operating Officer of Doha Film Institute, said: "Every country has voices that deserve to be heard, and cinema amplifies these voices far beyond the places where they begin. This partnership with Hamad International Airport is particularly meaningful as we are bringing Qatar's stories into a space where the world connects not only in travel but to explore artistic masterpieces for memorable immersive experiences. We look forward to welcoming travellers from every corner of the world to discover the people, perspectives and creative spirit that shape our nation through these films."
The Screening Room offers a welcoming walk-in retreat where travellers can explore the programme at their own pace that includes award-recognised works such as Smicha by Amal Al-Muftah, winner of the Best Narrative Award in the Made in Qatar competition, and Gubgub by Nouf Al Sulaiti, whose lead performer received the Abdulaziz Jassim Award for Best Performance. The selection also features A Simple Cut by Maha Al-Jefairi, Above The Tamarind Tree by Buthyna Al-Mohammadi, Hope by Abdulla Al-Janahi, Nasser & The Ticket by Tony El Ghazal, Emsahar by Hassan Al-Jahni, The Unlucky Hamster by Abdulaziz Khashabi, Aljohara by Nora Al-Subai and Land Of Pearls by Mohammed Al Ibrahim. Together, the curated short films explore family, identity, tradition, imagination and everyday life in Qatar.
By placing these filmmakers and their stories within the passenger journey, the 'Made in Qatar' Screening Room connects international audiences with Qatar's creative voices while extending the reach of locally rooted cinema beyond the country. (QNA)
