CRA Showcases Results of Advanced Technology Trials Paving Way for 6G at MWC26 Doha
Doha, November 08 (QNA) - The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is showcasing the outcome of advanced technology trials at the State of Qatar Pavilion during MWC26 Doha, held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) from November 8 to 10, 2026. The trials demonstrate the potential of advanced mobile technologies to deliver higher data speeds, greater network capacity and enhanced network performance, representing an important step in Qatar's technology evolution paving the way towards the IMT-2030/6G era. CRA is leading the initiative in collaboration with Ooredoo Qatar and Vodafone Qatar, with Huawei participating as the technology partner.
The showcase of the trial results, held today at the State of Qatar Pavilion, was attended by President of CRA Engineer Ahmad bin Abdulla AlMuslemani; HE Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Qatar Sheikh Ali bin Jabor bin Mohammad Al-Thani; and President, GCC Region at Huawei, Lin Jincan. During the showcase, they were briefed on the trial results and the capabilities of advanced technologies, highlighting the joint collaboration to support the development of Qatar's telecommunications sector.
These trials build on the Qatar 6G Testbed Platform initiative launched by CRA during MWC Doha 2025, which aims to establish a national testing environment for evaluating emerging technologies and assessing their performance. The current trials further advance this initiative by generating insights into advanced mobile network capabilities, high-speed data transmission, empowering Qatar National Vision 2030 and Digital Agenda 2030 to foster a fully connected society, accelerate digital transformation, and establish Qatar as a global connectivity benchmark.
The trials achieved a peak download speed of 12.23 gigabits per second (Gbps) using six-component carrier aggregation (6CC), combining a total bandwidth of 600 MHz with advanced 256T256R Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (Massive MIMO) antenna systems. The configuration combined 400 MHz of temporarily authorized spectrum in the upper 6 GHz band with 200 MHz of commercially deployed 5G New Radio (NR) spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band.
CRA is leading the initiative by providing regulatory support and temporary spectrum authorization for the trials. Ooredoo Qatar and Vodafone Qatar are contributing network infrastructure and engineering expertise, while Huawei provided the advanced technology ecosystem supporting the trials.
Commenting on the initiative, President of CRA Engineer Ahmad bin Abdulla AlMuslemani said: "CRA is leading this initiative as part of its role in preparing the telecommunications sector for Qatar's digital future. Preparing for 6G is an investment in the country's future, given its potential to drive innovation in services and enhance consumers' experience. These trials form part of CRA's ongoing efforts to evaluate emerging technologies, assess their performance, explore their potential applications in future telecommunications networks, and build on the Qatar 6G Testbed Platform, which provides an environment for testing advanced wireless technologies and validating their capabilities in collaboration with Service Providers and technology partners. CRA places Qatar's national priorities and requirements at the heart of its assessment of technological developments, international studies, and their implications for the telecommunications sector. In this context, we remain committed to contributing to the ongoing efforts of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) towards the development of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT-2030) and drawing on practical trials to deepen our understanding of the technical and spectrum requirements of future networks. Through these efforts, we aim to support an efficient, resilient, and future-ready telecommunications sector that meets the needs of consumers and businesses and fosters innovation. These efforts also contribute to economic growth, in line with CRA's strategic vision for an advanced and sustainable telecommunications sector and support the objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030."
Highlighting Ooredoo Qatar's contribution to the trials, HE Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Qatar Sheikh Ali bin Jabor bin Mohammad Al-Thani, , said: "Building the networks of tomorrow requires continued investment, innovation and collaboration today. Ooredoo has consistently contributed to advancing next-generation connectivity and supporting the country's digital transformation. Our participation in the Qatar 6G Testbed Platform reflects our commitment to supporting Qatar's technological advancement and exploring the possibilities of future-generation networks. The progress demonstrated through these trials provides valuable insights that will contribute to research, innovation and the evolution of future networks. Through our collaboration with CRA and industry partners, we are contributing to the development of advanced connectivity, cloud and AI technologies that can unlock new opportunities for businesses, innovators and the wider economy, while supporting the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030."
Commenting on Vodafone Qatar's participation, HE Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Jassim Al-Thani said: "The results of these advanced technology trials represent an important step in Qatar's journey towards the next generation of mobile communications. By demonstrating the potential for higher data speeds, greater network capacity and enhanced network performance, these trials provide valuable insights into the capabilities of future communications networks. At Vodafone Qatar, we remain committed to advancing network innovation and contributing our expertise to national initiatives that support the development of Qatar's digital infrastructure, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030."
Commenting on Huawei's role as the technology partner, President, GCC Region, Huawei, Lin Jincan said: "Qatar continues to demonstrate its ambition to be at the forefront of global digital innovation, and we are proud to contribute to this journey alongside CRA, Ooredoo Qatar, and Vodafone Qatar. This milestone reflects the power of collaboration and innovation in shaping the future of connectivity. At Huawei, we remain committed to bringing world-leading technologies and expertise to accelerate the evolution from 5G toward 5G-Advanced and 6G respectively, unlocking new possibilities for people, businesses, and industries."
