MoPH Organises Workshop on Mechanism for Regulating, Licensing Hijama Practitioners in Qatar
Doha, November 04 (QNA) - The Ministry of Public Health(MoPH) recently organised a workshop on the mechanism for regulating and licensing Hijama (cupping) practitioners in the State of Qatar.
The workshop reviewed the national guidelines for regulating traditional, complementary and integrative medicine practices and infection prevention and control requirements in the State of Qatar, as well as Circular No. (33) of 2026, which sets out the new professional requirements and approved standards for cupping practice by individuals without a medical background.
The workshop also covered the licensing requirements for the target group, assessment procedures and the review of qualifications and certificates. It emphasised that applicants must pass the theoretical examination and the technical interview conducted by the relevant expert committee at MoPH's Department of Healthcare Professions.
During the workshop, representatives of MoPH's Department of Healthcare Professions stressed that cupping may only be practised in licensed healthcare facilities and that no practitioner may begin work before obtaining a professional licence and meeting all the requirements. They also confirmed that inspections and monitoring would continue to verify compliance with professional standards and requirements for patient safety and infection control.
These measures reflect the Ministry of Public Health's commitment to developing the regulatory and licensing system for healthcare practices and strengthening compliance with approved standards, helping to safeguard patients and community members and improve the quality of healthcare services in the State of Qatar.
