For his part, CEO of Art Basel Noah Horowitz outlined the key features of Art Basel Qatar 2027, expressing hope that the edition would mark another milestone in nurturing local talent, connecting it with global markets and strengthening Doha's cultural presence internationally as a city where the world's civilizations meet in harmony.
He said the inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar had exceeded expectations, creating a dynamic platform that successfully connected the local cultural scene with an extensive global network.
Horowitz revealed that more than 30 galleries would participate in the 2027 edition for the first time in Art Basel's history worldwide.
They include Alhosh Gallery, Taymour Grahne Projects, Efie Gallery and Contemporary Art Platform in Kuwait, alongside prominent international names such as Andy Warhol and Mahmoud Faraj, among others.
He stressed that Art Basel Qatar's ambition extended beyond organizing an annual event to establishing a sustainable platform that supports the next generation of art collectors and patrons.
Artistic Director of Art Basel Qatar 2027 Wassan Al Khudhairi offered an interpretation of this edition's theme, "Between", saying it reflected the fair's evolving vision and its role as a leading global platform for artistic and cultural exchange in the region.
She explained that the theme explored space as a generative realm that resists rigid definitions and instead thrives on interaction, exchange and fluidity. Rather than viewing boundaries as gaps that must be bridged or closed, the fair proposes that these intervals and spaces are places to inhabit and share.
Al Khudhairi added that Art Basel Qatar 2027 would go beyond presenting artworks to include special project programs designed to activate public spaces and encourage gathering and dialogue. Christine Merz, CEO of QC+, said the partnership with Art Basel extended beyond organizing major art fairs, reflecting HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani's vision of nurturing and developing the region's creative economy.
She noted that QC+'s growing portfolio included leading cultural, hospitality and commercial projects in Doha.
She added that Doha Design District would serve as a central hub for numerous upcoming events, hosting talks and panel discussions featuring artists, decision-makers, curators and collectors from across the Middle East, South Asia and the wider world.
Chief Artistic Officer and Global Director of Fairs at Art Basel Vincenzo de Bellis said: "Our ambition for Art Basel Qatar is to build a fair that is rooted in its region and resonates around the world."
He added: "We are shaping an edition designed to stimulate growth and open new paths for collectors, galleries, and institutions to connect. It's a model that draws on the strength of Art Basel's global network of fairs while staying distinctly of its place."
The second edition of Art Basel Qatar 2027 will also feature a new program called "Collectors Majlis", an invitation-only pilot masterclass program designed for a group of approximately 30 to 40 new and emerging collectors, as well as individuals with an interest in the art world.
The inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar launched in Doha in February 2026 and has become an integral part of Qatar's vibrant cultural scene, establishing a new long-term platform for cultural exchange, institutional engagement and art market development across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA).
The fair attracts leading galleries from around the world and provides an exceptional platform for showcasing prominent artistic talent from the Global South and beyond.
Art Basel Qatar is committed to developing the regional art market through a year-round programme that complements the annual fair. (QNA)
