Doha, October 14 (QNA) - The Ministry of Sports and Youth (MSY) on Wednesday concluded the Strategic Foresight Forum on Global Youth Competencies and Lifelong Learning, held in Doha from October 12 to 14 in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

The forum brought together experts, institutions and youth from several countries to discuss future challenges, develop youth skills and expand their role in policymaking. Its recommendations focused on promoting foresight, drawing on Qatar’s future-planning experience, developing future-ready skills and translating outcomes into joint programs.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), MSY's Director of the Youth Affairs Department Fawaz Al Mesaifri said the forum provided a platform for dialogue and exchanging ideas, helping young people develop foresight skills, shape future scenarios and propose practical solutions that address their aspirations and needs, particularly in education, employment and community life.

He stressed that investing in young people and enabling them to help shape policies and programs were essential to preparing for the future.

He noted that their ideas and capabilities could help anticipate challenges and seize opportunities for development and innovation.

Al Mesaifri added that cooperation between the Ministry, ICESCO, Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University and the Qatar National Commission offered opportunities to exchange expertise and coordinate efforts to empower young people and strengthen their foresight capabilities.

He stressed the importance of translating their proposals into practical programs and initiatives.

Head of ICESCO's Foresight and Artificial Intelligence Center Dr. Kais Hammami said the forum aimed to address future challenges and strengthen youth participation in anticipating and preparing for change.

He noted Qatar's experience in strategic foresight and stressed the importance of institutional cooperation, coordination and knowledge-sharing.

The first day featured strategic foresight experts, while the following two days focused on engaging young people in developing future scenarios and proposing ideas.

Participants represented several countries, including UNESCO member states.

Al Hammami said ICESCO was working to promote strategic foresight, noting that it established the first Arab and Islamic center for strategic foresight and artificial intelligence in 2020.

The center aims to conduct specialized studies, promote foresight among member states and train 5,000 people in the field.

Omar Tumeh, representing Syria at the forum, thanked Qatar for its support, hospitality and solidarity, praising its efforts to empower young people and strengthen their role in shaping the future.

He said the forum provided a space for young people to discuss issues affecting them and explore ways to address rapid changes.

He stressed the need to move beyond slogans towards joint action based on a clear vision and effective partnerships.

Tumeh added that young people were partners in driving change through their ideas, initiatives and contributions to national and humanitarian issues.

He called for continued cooperation between young people and relevant institutions to turn the forum's proposals into practical projects that strengthen youth participation in policymaking and positive change.

The Strategic Foresight Forum on Global Youth Competencies and Lifelong Learning recommended promoting foresight, developing youth capabilities, expanding their role in policymaking and establishing follow-up mechanisms.

Its five priority areas include embedding foresight in education, youth work and policymaking through capacity-building; sharing Qatar’s future-planning and youth empowerment experience with ICESCO member states through joint programs and study visits tailored to national priorities; and strengthening youth participation in shaping policies on education, employment and community life.

Proposed measures include regular youth consultations, specialized foresight labs, intergenerational dialogue and links between youth proposals and institutions.

The fourth priority promotes future skills and lifelong learning through cooperation among education, training, youth and labor-market institutions, stronger critical and creative thinking, responsible AI use and wider training access for disadvantaged youth.

The fifth calls for a joint framework defining priorities, responsibilities, partnerships and progress indicators to implement recommendations and support youth initiatives. The next forum will review progress and share lessons to sustain cooperation.

The recommendations also stressed aligning institutional efforts with youth aspirations and turning foresight into practical initiatives and responsive policies.

Over three days, the forum held sessions and workshops on strategic foresight, future scenarios, skills, lifelong learning and youth responses to rapid change. (QNA)
