Gaza Municipality Appeals to International Community to Intervene, Alleviate Disaster Facing Strip
Gaza, January 9 (QNA) - The Gaza Municipality has appealed to the international community to assume its responsibilities and intervene to alleviate the disaster facing the Strip due to the recent storm, which has exacerbated the suffering of its residents.
The municipality confirmed Friday that it is operating under extremely difficult and harsh conditions, including a severe financial crisis that has prevented it from paying salaries and advances to employees.
This is compounded by a lack of resources and equipment, and the unprecedented level of destruction. The municipality noted that its teams were working around the clock to monitor the storm despite limited resources and the widespread devastation caused by the Israeli occupation during its war of annihilation.
Thousands of displaced Palestinians are living in dilapidated tents that cannot withstand the rain and wind. Dozens of residential buildings are on the verge of collapse and are housing displaced people with no alternative housing.
The suffering of more than one million displaced people in the Gaza Strip is worsening with the onset of winter, due to the ongoing delays in the entry of reconstruction and shelter materials, particularly caravans.
The weather conditions led to the flooding of hundreds of tents and their transformation into pools of water, which deepened the tragedy of displacement and left thousands of families, especially children, women and the elderly, in humanitarian conditions that directly threaten their lives and health.
