Doha, January 03 (QNA) - HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al-Thani crowned the winners of the horse race for His Highness's Cup and Prize, held Saturday at the Al Rayyan Grass Racecourse of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, as part of the local racing season programme.

The race card featured nine contests, including the third and fourth races dedicated to the Cup and Prize, with His Highness honoring the winning jockeys in the Al Sabeq Heritage Championship, which runs alongside the premier races throughout the season.

Wathnan Racing delivered a standout double by winning the Cup, with its horse clinching first place in the third race for Purebred Arabian horses (Second Category) over 1600 m, ridden by jockey James Doyle and supervised by trainer Alban de Mieulle.

In addition, His Highness crowned the winners in the fourth main race for Purebred Arabian horses, for locally bred horses aged four years and above, also led by jockey James Doyle and trainer Alban de Mieulle.

At the level of the Al Sabeq Heritage Championship, HH Sheikh Abdullah honored the top four riders in a race demonstrating time-honored Qatari equestrianism and its deep-rooted connection to heritage.

Rider Ali Mohammed Ali Al Musallat Al Otaibi claimed first place, followed by Saud Rashid Mohammed Muteb Al Saqaq in second, and Faleh Faraj Saleh Al Musallat Al Otaibi in third.

In the first race for Thoroughbred novices over 1600 m, aged four years and above, the horse owned by Hamed Marit Saad Al Fhaid Al Hajri clinched first place under jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot and trainer Hamad Al Juhani.

The second race, a Thoroughbred Handicap (70-90) over 1400 m, saw Pearling Path, owned by Mohamed Abdelhadi Saad Al Hajri, claim victory with jockey Lucas Deluzier and trainer Ibrahim Saeed Al Maliki.

In the fifth race, a Thoroughbred Handicap (75-95) over 2000 m, Basalt, owned by Mansour bin Ibrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, finished first under Marco Casamento and trainer Jassim Al Ghazali.

The sixth race, the French King Cup for local Thoroughbreds over 1600 m, was won by Equinoxe, ridden by James Doyle and trained by Alban de Mieulle, marking the third win for owner Wathnan Racing.

The seventh race, the Umm Qarn Trophy over 2000 m, went to Foehn, owned by Hamed Ramzan Hamed Al Rumzani Al Naimi, with jockey Gavin Mat Ryan and trainer Hadi Al Rumzani.

In the eighth race, the HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al-Thani Silver Cup for Purebred Arabians over 1600 m, Taftan, owned by Ahmed Hassan Al Maliki Al Juhani, took first place under Pierre-Charles Boudot and trainer Hamad Al Juhani.

Finally, in the ninth race, the Majd Al Arab Sprinter Cup for Purebred Arabians (Category 3) over 1200 m, Posuelo PY, owned by Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamed Ibrahim Al Fadala, achieved victory with jockey James Doyle, who celebrated his fourth win of the day, while trainer Hamad Al Juhani secured his third win.
