Mogadishu, January 30 (QNA) - The Somali army announced Friday that it had killed four-armed members of the Al Shabaab movement, which is linked to al-Qaeda, during an operation carried out by its forces in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia.

In a statement, the army said that its forces carried out the operation in cooperation with international partners, targeting armed elements who were holed up in the Mubarak area of Lower Shabelle region.

The statement confirmed that militants were killed in the operation while planting landmines.

The army also reiterated its commitment to continuing its efforts to eliminate the movement's elements and to continue its counter-terrorism operations until security and stability are achieved throughout the country.

Over the past few days, the Somali army has announced the elimination of a number of Al Shabaab militants and the recapture of areas previously under Al Shabaab control in southern Somalia. (QNA)
