Cairo, January 27 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated in the meeting of Senior Arab Officials Committee on Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), which started on Monday and will continue for three days, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo
The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by HE Chairperson of the National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons (NCPW) Brigadier Sultan Rashid Al Hudhaifi.

The meeting's agenda included several topics of interest to Arab states in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation, including the coordination of Arab positions for participation in the Eleventh Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the 70th Session of the IAEA General Conference.

In a speech during the event, HE Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the International Political Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States Ambassador Khalid bin Mohammed Manzalawi emphasized the importance of the Senior Arab Officials Committee. He noted that it is the sole technical body within the framework of the Arab League that addresses issues related to weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapons.

He explained that since its establishment in the early 1990s, the committee has played a vital role in monitoring and addressing Israeli nuclear capabilities, as well as formulating unified Arab positions in international forums relevant to disarmament and non-proliferation. (QNA)
