Qatar Win Silver Medal in Men's Team Trap Event at Asian Shotgun Championships (Doha 2026)
Doha, January 20 (QNA) - The Qatari national team won the silver medal in the men's team trap event on the ninth and penultimate day of the Asian Shotgun Championships (Doha 2026), currently being held at the Lusail Shooting Complex.
The championships conclude tomorrow, Wednesday, with 196 male and female shooters representing 17 countries participating.
The Qatari team, comprised of shooters Saeed Abu Sharib, Mohammed Al Rumaihi, and Angelo Scalzone, won the silver medal after finishing second with a total score of 352 targets across the five rounds.
The Kuwaiti team, consisting of Abdulrahman Al-Faihan, Nasser Al Muqallad, and Khaled Al Mudhaf, took first place with a total score of 354 targets, earning the gold medal.
The bronze medal and third place went to the UAE team, comprised of shooters Yahya Al-Muhairi, Waleed Al-Aryani, and Mohammed Al Maktoum, who scored 351 targets.
In the men's individual trap shooting competition, Pakistani shooter Muhammad Farooq Nadeem won the gold medal and set a new Asian and world record of 27 out of 30 targets.
Kazakhstan's Maksym Baydarov took the silver medal with 26 out of 30 targets, and Kuwait's Abdulrahman Al Faihan earned the bronze medal with 20 out of 30 targets.
In the women's individual trap shooting competition, Chinese Taipei's Wan-Yu Liu won the gold medal and set a new Asian and world record of 24 out of 30 targets.
Kazakhstan's Ilyinova Ibragimova won the silver medal after finishing second in the final round with 23 out of 30 targets, and China's Shen-Yu Fan took the bronze medal after finishing third with 17 out of 30 targets.
In the women's team trap shooting competition, Kazakhstan took first place with 235 targets across five rounds, winning the gold medal.
Chinese Taipei came in second with 316 targets, securing the silver medal, while Kuwait finished third with 315 points, winning the bronze medal.
At the conclusion of the competition, HE First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana, HE Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Qatar Roshan Sithara Khan Azard, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, and Secretary General of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations Obaid Manahi Al Osaimi presented the awards to the winners.
The championship concludes on Wednesday with the mixed team trap shooting competition.
For his part, Secretary General of the Arab and Kuwaiti Shooting Federations Obaid Manahi Al Osaimi praised the results achieved in the trap shooting competitions.
In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Osaimi said that these results reflect the development of Arab shooting and its ability to compete with Asian and world champions.
The Secretary General of the Arab and Kuwaiti Shooting Federations affirmed that Qatar, as usual, succeeded in delivering an exceptional edition of the Asian Shotgun Championship.
Concluding, Al Osaimi congratulated the Kuwaiti team on winning the gold medal in the men's team event, the Qatari team on winning the silver medal, and the Emirati team on winning the bronze medal.
For his part, Masoud Al Athba, Head of the Trap Department for the Qatari national shooting team, emphasized that the Qatari shooters' silver medal in the men's team trap event was not a coincidence, but rather the fruit of diligent work and long-term strategic planning.
He noted that the current edition of the Asian Shotgun Championship (Doha 2026) has achieved outstanding technical success, represented in breaking Asian and world records at the Lusail International Arenas. (QNA)
