Amman, January 20 (QNA) - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned, in the strongest terms, the Israeli occupation forces' demolishing of a building inside the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.

It deemed this move a perilous escalation and a brazen breach of international law, as well as of the immunities and privileges of United Nations organizations.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Fouad Al Majali, stressed that Jordan utterly rejects these unlawful antics, along with the ongoing methodical campaign by Israel, the occupying power, to target UNRWA, as well as its existential and vital activities that are indispensable and can't be replaced when it comes to providing Palestinian refugees with its services within the agency's five areas of operations based on its UN mandate.

The Ambassador noted that the Israeli measures are intended to compromise UNRWA's existence and its symbolism that confirms the rights of Palestinian refugees to return and be redressed in accordance with international law.

These Israeli measures are an unequivocal intention to deprive the Palestinian people of critical rights and services endorsed by the international community, as well as by the relevant UN resolutions, particularly UN Resolution 194, Al Majali underlined.

Al Majali further cautioned against the consequences of these unlawful Israeli measures against UNRWA and its institutions. He called on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities and stand up to the Israeli decisions and practices targeting UNRWA, in addition to providing essential political and financial support for the agency to continue to provide its critical services to Palestinian refugees.
