Death Toll from Israeli Aggression on Gaza Surges to 71,551
Gaza, January 20 (QNA) - The death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 71,551, in addition to 171,372 wounded.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza stated in a press release that hospitals in the Strip received one new martyr and seven wounded individuals in the past 48 hours. The Ministry indicated that the total number of martyrs since the ceasefire on Oct. 10 has risen to 466, while the total number of injuries has reached 1,294.
The ministry noted that search operations for additional victims beneath the rubble of buildings destroyed by the occupation have led to the recovery of 713 bodies, warning that thousands more remain trapped under piles of concrete and debris from Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling.
It also reported the death of a six-month-old infant due to extreme cold, bringing the number of child deaths caused by cold weather since the beginning of winter to nine.
A ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli entity came into force on Oct. 10, following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of the Gaza Strip and the start of displaced residents' return to northern Gaza. This was part of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's plan to end the war on Gaza. (QNA)
