Israeli Shells Hit UNIFIL Helicopter Landing Zone in Southern Lebanon; No One Hurt
Beirut, January 13 (QNA) - Two mortar shells, possibly illumination flares, hit helicopter landing zone (HLZ) and main gate of a United Nations site southwest of the town of Yaroun in southern Lebanon, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement added that fortunately no one was hurt and that UNIFIL submitted a ceasefire request to the Israeli military, reminding it once again of its duty to ensure the safety of the peacekeeping forces and halt the offensives that endanger their lives and sites.
Any acts that imperil peacekeepers are regarded as gross violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and undermine the stability that those peacekeepers are working to deepen, the statement stressed.
On Monday, UNIFIL stated that three Israeli tanks had rammed into one of its surveillance points in the town of Sarda in southern Lebanon and fired three rounds, two of them landing at a distance of 150 meters from its patrol, without recording any casualties or damage. (QNA)
