10th Consultative Meeting of Arab Ministers Responsible for Mineral Resources Convenes in Riyadh
Riyadh, January 13 (QNA) - The 10th Consultative Meeting of Arab Ministers Responsible for Mineral Resources kicked off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday.
Convened by the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining (AIDSMO) in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the event runs concomitantly with the International Mining Conference hosted by Saudi Arabia from January 13 to 15.
The agenda focused on AIDSMO's key achievements in the mineral resources sector, including the Guideline Mining System for Arab Countries, the study on rehabilitation of old mines and quarries to achieve sustainable development, the Arab Platform for Future Minerals (APFM), the guiding roadmap for energy transition minerals in the Arab region, the Arab Initiative for Artificial Intelligence in the Mineral Sector, the Unified Glossary of Mining Terms, and the Arab Digital Library for Mining Studies.
In his opening remarks, Director General of AIDSMO, Adel Saqr Al Saqr, highlighted that the meeting presents a package of current and future technical initiatives aimed at maximizing the benefit from Arab mineral resources and boosting integration within their associated value chains.
This convention marks the official launch of the AIDSMO-prepared Arab Digital Library for Mining Studies, consistently with the recommendations of the previous meeting, serving as a specialized knowledge reference supporting decision-makers and researchers, Al Saqr noted.
He reaffirmed AIDSMO's unyielding commitment to continuing high-impact activities that meet the aspirations of member states.
For his part, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Administrative and Financial Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Mohammed Saleh Al Ajiri, stressed that the consultative meetings on the mineral resources sector have long served, and continue to serve, as a pivotal platform for steering its development and enhancing cooperation among member states.
He underscored AIDSMO's commitment to following up on previous consultative recommendations and translating them into practical activities and development programs, supporting the Arab mining sector as one of the key pillars of economic development in Arab countries. (QNA)
