Twitter Founder Launches Bitchat Offline Messaging App
Washington, July 09 (QNA) - Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has launched a new messaging app called BitChat, which uses Bluetooth technology to communicate between devices without the need for an internet connection.
Dorsey posted a preliminary image of the app on his GitHub account, showing advanced features such as password-protected channels and a special mode called Panic Mode, which allows users to instantly clear all data when the logo is triple-tapped, without relying on creating accounts, central servers, or collecting user data.
“Bitchat addresses the need for resilient, private communication that doesn’t depend on centralized infrastructure,” he said.
“By leveraging Bluetooth Low Energy mesh networking, Bitchat enables direct peer-to-peer messaging within physical proximity, with automatic message relay extending the effective range beyond direct Bluetooth connections,” Dorsey added.
Dorsey says the app is still undergoing review ahead of its full release.
Bitchat offers a range of more than 300 meters, with future updates planned that will allow users to increase speed and range via Wi-Fi Direct, and is currently available to a group of testers via the TestFlight platform, with a maximum of 10,000 users.(QNA)
