Qatar Football Association Award Board Approves Final Nominees for 2024-2025 Season's Best Awards
Doha, May 21 (QNA) - The Board of Trustees for the Qatar Football Association (QFA) Awards on Wednesday announced the final list of nominees for the best awards for the 2024-2025 season, which include Best Player, Best Coach, Best Player Under 23, and Best Goalkeeper, with the latter being added for the first time this season after the conclusion of the voting process, form sorting, and approval.
The QFA Awards Board revealed that the nominees for the Best Player award include: Akram Afif (Al Sadd forward), Baghdad Bounedjah (Al Shamal player), and Julian Draxler (Al Ahli player).
For the Best Coach award, the contenders are: Felix Sanchez (Al Sadd, league champions), Pedro Martins (Al Gharafa, third in the league, and last year's winner), and Igor Biscan (Al Ahli, fourth in the league).
The nominees for Best Goalkeeper are: Mishaal Barshim (Al Sadd), Salah Zakaria (Al Duhail), and Marwan Sharif (Al Ahli).
The Best Player Under 23 award will see competition between Abdullah Youssef (Al Gharafa), Mohamed Manaai (Al Shamal), and Moaz Al Wadi (Al Shahania).
The voting process involved coaches from the QNB Stars League, heads of departments from club companies, the senior national team coach, the U-23 national team coach, national teams management, the official broadcaster, media representatives, a QFA representative, a representative from the Qatar Stars League Foundation, members of the QFA Awards Board, Aspire Academy, the Qatar Olympic Committee, and the Qatari Players Association.
The winners of the various awards will be announced during the end-of-season ceremony scheduled for May 26th at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.
Al Rayyan's Brazilian forward Roger Guedes won the Mansour Muftah Top Scorer Award after scoring 21 goals, three goals ahead of Akram Afif, Spanish Rafa Mujica (Al Sadd), and Baghdad Bounedjah (Al Shamal), who each scored 18 goals. Dutch Pelle van Amersfoort (Al Shahania) finished fifth with 15 goals.
Regarding the Football for All award and the Best Referee Team award, the winners will be announced alongside the final results of the QFA Awards. (QNA)
